1962

France:

Creation of Vygon in Ecouen by Belgian Engineer Pierre Simonet.

Pierre had always been driven by innovation, and after WWII turned his attention to healthcare. In 1946 he created the first French blood bank, but changing legislation required a physician to run these so Pierre had to move on.  He then created the company Etablissements Dubernard with the aim of introducing plastic into the healthcare market as a replacement for widely used fragile glass flasks. Pierre sold this company in 1960 to Laboratoires Labaze.

Pierre had his next idea during a short stay in hospital.  He became aware of the difficulties with device sterilisation, and had the idea to develop single-use medical devices.  In 1962 Vygon was born.

Today Stéphane Régnault, husband of Pierre’s granddaughter, continues the family venture.
